About Us

Located in Palo Alto, our spa will provide a true Immersion into Korean Spa culture with modern facility and products.

Immersion Spa & Sauna is inspired by ancient Korean practices, consisting of Jjimjilbangs (bathhouses), refreshing full body scrub, and traditional Acupressure massage. Our desire to honor these traditions in a contemporary spa atmosphere creates the complete therapeutic experience within our 6,000 square foot top-of-the-line facilities and amenities. You can purify your body with the use of our spa, target problematic areas with therapeutic treatments, or simply enjoy a relaxing day with friends or family.

Stress has been found to be extremely detrimental to one’s health and longevity, if not dealt with. It can be the cause of many diseases and ailments, but primarily it takes an unnecessary toll on our bodies that can be avoided. Spa and bath therapies have existed since pre-history to cure common ailments such as arthritis, high blood pressure, and chronic pain. Over time, spas have become a major part of Korean and American cultures to relax and refresh oneself from daily life. Utilizing time-honored treatments, we provide effortless ways for you to relax, rejuvenate, and restore your body to radiant health.

We are currently the only Korean day spa and sauna in the San Francisco Bay Area partnering with Aveda. They too are heavily influenced by ancient healing traditions, specifically Indian Ayurveda medicine, which is based on the beliefs that everything is interconnected and that health cannot exist without balance. We are dedicated to using natural, sustainable materials and products in our spa to ensure unadulterated invigoration. Only our Earth’s natural elements of salt, herbs, and wood in our saunas allow the quick release of toxins, enhancing your body’s natural healing abilities. Come by some day soon to begin (or continue) your journey to health and wellness!

Things to Know

What can I expect from a Korean scrub?

While lying down, our professional scrub therapist will use an abrasive scrub mitt to slough off dull and dead skin from the neck down. The therapist will position your body in various angles so every inch of your skin is attended to. You will notice large, rolled up gray clumps of dead skin coming off of you, which is the result of a great scrub.  (It CAN NOT be compared to a sugar or salt scrub. Ours is a much more thorough and healthy exfoliation method!)

What are the benefits of a Korean scrub?

The benefits of Korean scrubs are tremendous! Your skin has naturally occurring accumulation of dead skin, dirt, and oil that can end up clogging your pores. Korean scrub alone removes all buildup and allows your skin to breathe, which results in many health benefits. It helps smooth dry patches, lightens unwanted pigmentation, improves circulation of blood and lymph nodes, reduces water weight, prevents wrinkles, reduces cellulite, releases toxins, helps renew healthy skin production, and leaves your skin feeling amazingly soft.

How often should I get a Korean scrub?

Ideally, scrubs should be done every two weeks or at least once a month depending on your skin type. Receiving scrubs regularly will keep excess buildup from clogging your pores and allows fresh skin to regenerate easily, ensuring a healthy complexion and glow.

What style(s) of massage are performed?

Our Signature Massages normally contain a mix of deep tissue, shiatsu, and thai massage with a strong pressure level. Each therapist has a unique style of their own, but can perform requested styles easily. We offer acupressure, deep tissue, shiatsu, thai, sports, prenatal, or swedish styles. We encourage you to let the reception coordinators know your preferred style, gender preference, and pressure level before your treatment to ensure the best quality massage is performed to your liking.

Is there a minimum age for treatments?

Our spa and sauna facilities are accessible to guests 14 years of age or older.  No one under the age of 14 may enter the spa area(s).

What if I am late for my appointment?

Arriving late will shorten the time of your treatment, thus lessening its effectiveness and your pleasure. Your treatment will end at the original time so that the next guest will not be delayed. The full price of your treatment will remain the same.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please notify the spa no later than 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full service fee.

Are gift cards available for Immersion Spa?

Absolutely! You may purchase gift cards in any dollar amount or for a specific service either at the spa or on our website.
BUY GIFT CARDS

A Look at Korea’s Culture From the Bathhouse

My friend Arcadia Kim has three children and a Harvard business degree, but when she tried to negotiate on our behalf with the lady in charge of exfoliation at the Dragonhill Spa in Seoul, she did not stand a chance. We were standing in the heart of the jimjilbang, or Korean bathhouse, in a steaming, all-female bathing room where scrubs are administered (as they are across the land) by strict middle-aged women, more than a few of them with potbellies, who wear nothing but sexy black lace bras and underwear. Arcadia had whispered to me that the women were ajummas, which means “aunties” and connotes matronly, working-class women known for no-nonsense warmth and authority… Read more >
